Rewind is a Filipino movie that I heard that was so last year during the Christmas season and I did not pay any attention, not a bit. I must admit I am not much of a fan of the mainstream Philippine movies right now. I would prefer the old movies and the ones that would be considered as classics.
At the beginning of summer vacation, I was kind of curious and had free time and a little desire to watch a movie. A Netflix app has been sitting on my tablet, so I decided to browse the huge selection of movies and series, and the Rewind movie got my attention. I remember the good reviews and raving reception of Filipinos here in Manor. It got me curious about the impression they had about the movie.
What's the movie about?
Netflix says, "After his wife passes away during a tumultuous period in their marriage, a man strikes a peculiar bargain that transports him to the past with the opportunity to mend their relationship, albeit at the cost of his own life."
Alright, so I was ready and prepared for whatever the movie would throw at me. If it was dramatic, I was ready not to cry because I was tired of crying last week. I needed to rest my eyes and tear glands, please.
But that did not happen. I was crying, practically bawling my eyes out. I was not prepared, was not born ready for this movie. Oh my. My eyes got swollen throughout the scenes in the movie.
What did I learn?
- Life is not about work or the job we have. We have to set our priorities right. Give time to what is more important and something that money cannot buy or material things cannot replace.
- Forgive. We should not stay angry for too long. Learn to forgive to free ourselves from all the hurt and pain.
- Say sorry if you must, if you have to. Be humble to accept that there are times that we can be wrong. Do not let our negative emotions ruin good relationships.
- Communicate our true feelings especially to the ones we love, to the ones most important to us.
- There is no such thing as rewind in real life. Make the most out of it. Be good, and give grace to others and to yourself. Show our love and care to the people most important to us through any form of love languages we know and can.
- Surrender to the One who is in control of everything, it is going to be hard, but we have to have faith and entrust all the things we cannot control. He knows what is best and good for us and the people we love.
Do I recommend this movie?
Definitely! It is the kind of movie worthy of your time. Watch it with your family, with your partner, or the ones you love. Plan a movie date with them, right now!
Constantine was a movie I always had been curious to watch. It's about angels, demons, and humans. John Constantine was born with a gift or a curse of seeing beyond the physical world. He has accessed the world of the spirits.
I have always been curious about this movie. I had watched some clips online and at one point encountered it on a free National TV back home, but I never had finished the whole film, not until I saw one of Keannu Reeves, The Devil's Advocate.
Curiosity got me watching this movie, well aside from Keanu Reeves as the main act here, I do enjoy stories about angels and demons, they tickle my fickle human mind.
If your faith is not founded in a solid rock, then this movie might question your belief. Be ready to defend your faith from self-doubting.
Constant doubt might just be hovering around you, and waiting for the right moment to attack the vulnerability in your faith. Make sure you stand your ground and be firmed to fight against or flee from the work of the enemy. Be steadfast.
It was the long weekend I so looked forward to. I did not plan to be grand. Staying at home was the first thing I had in mind when I learned that there would be a long weekend in our district this October. Giddy and excited, the meaningful and purposeful days passed by in almost three weeks. I listed down in my journal the things I needed to accomplish. I started my to-do list and was successful with some of them.
Watching movies and series is one of the hobbies I get to enjoy ever since I was a child, yet that joy seems nowhere to be found now. I have been wandering and looking for a movie or series that can bring back the spark and joy in watching cinematic art.
My wandering in the land of streaming and binging brought me to Tubi, an on demand video streaming app. The shows on Tubi appeal to my interest.
The South Korean movie 'Little Forest' caught my attention and awakened the dormant joy I had whenever I watch a movie.
The female lead was a familiar sight. Cute was the first word I would describe her. Her whole demeanor was a breath of fresh air.
The changing season in a small rural area in South Korea is like bringing colors to the black and white scenery of life.
The cold winter comes with sadness whereas a blooming spring brings hues of hope to the loneliness of the little woman. The summer heat pricks the skin of ignorance from the fickle-minded little woman. The falling autumn journeys with the wind as it goes along to the course of life and suffering.
Time makes the seasons change. Time makes little dreams come true. How time works is simple, yet the most difficult to understand with just our feeble human minds, without wisdom it is impossible.
The Little Forest is me, or maybe you.
A Walk in the Clouds, according to Wikipedia, is a 1995 American movie remake of the 1945 Italian film Four Steps in the Clouds. I was unaware of its existence not until a friend recommended watching it. I got interested since Keannu Reeves is the male lead, who doesn't like Reeves. I mean if there are some, I know that most people know him and like him a bit if not much. I am more familiar with the Constantine movie series since I am inclined with plots about angels and demons, but romance movies starring him, not one bit interested before.
I took a chance on this movie which deals with a lot of chances in life as well as wrong choices and decisions. It was a roller coaster ride love story of Sgt. Paul Sutton (who was then tied with Betty) and Victoria Aragon (a graduate student who got pregnant by her professor) at the end of World War II.
The story filled me with mixed feelings. I wanted to root for the male and female leads, sincerely and in full force, but I was quite concerned by their circumstances. They both had committed and uncommitted relationships with different persons and naturally they should end up with the person they fell in love with the first time. I was being inflexible while I watched the movie. I thought their relationship was wrong. Sutton should stay with his cheating wife and Aragon should find that bastard professor and let him marry her, only if I was the writer of that story, but I was not.
I learned a lot from the film like how everything could all go wrong with one single lie and only a few things that could go right, and one thing that I regretted the most was the farm of grapes got burned. Sayang! At the end of the movie, I was more concerned with the grapes and how they would rebuild the vineyard, which would take them a lot of time, effort, and hard work.
A Walk in the Clouds reminded me of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV). There is a season for everything under the heavens and there is the one and the only divine being who is in control of everything He allows to happen. Be joyful and hopeful in every season. Rejoice and hope in the season where you at right now.
A Time for Everything1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:2 a time to be born and a time to die,a time to plant and a time to uproot,3 a time to kill and a time to heal,a time to tear down and a time to build,4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,a time to mourn and a time to dance,5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,6 a time to search and a time to give up,a time to keep and a time to throw away,7 a time to tear and a time to mend,a time to be silent and a time to speak,8 a time to love and a time to hate,a time for war and a time for peace.
